The world of science is so vast with many possibilities for learning. When children are taught from the various science subjects available, they are learning how to think, solve problems, research, develop, and make informed decisions. These skills are so important to their education, life, and future endeavors. Science encourages analytical thinking skills, drives us to ask questions, and is a significant part of human culture. Children are naturally curious and finding answers to their questions through science can quench their thirst for learning.
Many families love using nature as the catalyst to their science lessons. After all, everything in nature is what science is all about. Some of the basic concepts typically taught in the elementary years are life sciences, physical sciences, and earth and space science. Life sciences in the early years revolve around the structure and function of plants and animals. It also addresses the environment and health topics. Physical science in the early years incorporates the study of how things move, the structure and properties of matter, and how nonliving things change form. Some of the things taught in earth and space science are maps, rocks, weathering, soil, erosion, landforms, fossils, solar system, stars, galaxies, and the moon.
Whether you use textbooks, living books, nature exploration, online resources, videos, hands-on learning, or a mixture of it all, your child will benefit greatly from learning about the world around them.
