There are many topics that can fall under the canopy of health. Some common ones being nutrition, physical growth and development, reproduction, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and safety. A big reason a lot of families choose to homeschool is the ability to choose what our children learn and when they learn it. Some topics within health may be more suitable for older children. But, we can always be laying the foundation for our children, building upon it in natural and normal ways.
Fitness can be a fun thing to teach our children. There are so many possibilities to incorporate fitness into our homeschool. Participating in a sport, taking dance/tumbling classes, family hikes and adventuring, yoga, or any activity that gets the body moving. Helping our children build overall strength, flexibility, and body awareness is the goal. We don’t have to get stuck in thinking that we need to mimic PE classes in public schools.
Knowledge on health and fitness is a life-long gift we can give our children. We can create positive attitudes for our children when it comes to their own well-being. Teaching healthy behaviors when our children are young can help them carry over into their teenage years and adulthood. However you choose to do it, your children will only benefit from it.
